Glazed Donut Bites

Donuts are best warm and gooey in my book.  What better way to get 'em that way than to make them fresh at home.  So I decided on this simple short cut for just that purpose.  Oh, and the glaze is AMAZING!  I  was trying to recreate what they have at Krispy Kreme, but I think it's better.  In fact, I've already been thinking of other recipes I can use it on, it's so good.



Glazed Donut Bites

2 cans refrigerated jumbo buttermilk biscuits
canola oil, for frying

Glaze
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups confectioners sugar, sifted
dash of salt

Directions
In a large pot heat approx 2 inches of oil to 350°F
With a pizza cutter, cut each biscuit into fourths
Set paper towels on a cookie sheet and place a cooling rack on top
Drop biscuit pieces into heated oil about 8 at a time
Cook for about five minutes flipping them half way to brown on both sides
Remove from oil and place on cooling rack to drain
Repeat for the rest of the dough
In a small bowl add milk and butter
Microwave about 1 minute until butter is melted
Whisk in vanilla, sugar and salt
Dip donuts in glaze and replace on the cooling rack to dry

Fudge Glaze for donuts: 1/2 cup butter; 1 cup powdered sugar; 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder; 1/4 cup hot water.
Directions: In medium saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder till well mixed. Gradually whisk in the hot water, adding a few drops if it gets too thick at any time.

For Fudge glaze, put some cocoa powder in the original recipe.

Kids loved these. The oil got too hot in the first batch, they burnt on the outside but were still raw on the inside. Once I cooled the oil it was fine.

Why are you specifying canola oil? Between GMO and glyphosate I am avoiding canola oil entirely.

I made these using coconut oil, natural, no trans fat and the donut bites turned out perfect. Delicious, light, fluffy and do remind me of Krispy Kreme donuts. Lots cheaper and couldn't be fresher from your own kitchen. I'll have to try the next batch with the chocolate sauce.

Yes, vegetable oil would work just fine as well.

5 minutes is too long to fry these in hot oil. They took me about a minute to fry and they were completely cooked. It is important to keep flipping them so one side does not get over done. For a quicker topping I tossed them in sugar and cinnamon. Delilsh!

My mom used to makes these when we were kids (40+ years ago); way before we ever heard of Krispy Kreme. Only difference, we used the cheapest brand of canned biscuits (usually the tiny grocery store brand kind), then rolled them in powdered sugar. Perfect breakfast treat for a bunch of hungry kids who didn't know you could buy "real" doughnuts at a "donut shop". I still love these!

Excellent!! This is the first recipe from
pinterest in a while which actually tastes as good as it looks. I actually had crescent dough and cut it the same as quartered biscuit dough. Thanks!
